Having moved out of the big city and down to the coast at last has taken some re-adjusting and a lot of soul searching. Wondering if I have done the right thing by accepting redundancy and giving up my beloved job at the Mildmay hospital (one of only two HIV/AIDS hospitals left in the UK) (having been there for 10 years) my carreer in HIV (very few jobs for someone like me down here) leaving my friends (even though I have friends here too). The job I got when I first moved turned out to be rather a disapointment unfortunately so have had to look for something else all together. I was kind of lucky as I have got a job (starting on Monday 5th Nov) working at the sexual health clinic and one day a week in the HIV clinic (the same one I attend) I am also going to be doing some work (voluntary) with the Terence Higgins Trust (UK based HIV charity) going round to schools, colleges and other places talking about my own experiences of living with HIV. I will also be doing some other voluntary work for the Sussex Beacon (the second HIV hospital) so at least I will be keeping my hand in.
Had a rather strange encounter when I went to the clinic to have my bloods taken yesterday. The nurse who attented to me said that he recognised me and when I told him I was going to be working there he then told me that he was one of the people who had interviewed me when I went for the job at the Sussex beacon last year (I did get it but couldn't accept it for one reason or another which was very unfortunate) He went on to tell me how impressed they were with me and were especially impressed by my teaching work, he also told me that they liked the way I interviewed as I did not try to big myself up too much but simply said what I did with out any embelishment. He also said he was glad that I was going to be part of the sexual health team and hopes that I will find an opportunity to work fulltime in the HIV clinic or at the Sussex Beacon. That made me feel a lot better about things and I am happier now to hang on until the right kind of job comes along.
